The guidebook...

After breakfast it's time to drive to Ait Benhaddou. On the way we stop at Tamegroute to visit the pottery that is famous here. We carry on via Zagora to the Tizi n’Tiniffift pass. Just before arriving at the highest point of the pass we leave the main road for a picnic lunch stop.

From the pass descend to Ait Saoun and Tiffoultoute and reach Ait Benhaddou in the mid afternoon.

It is easy to see why film producers pick Ait Benhaddou for such movies as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia and The Mummy and The Mummy Returns.

It is also a UNESCO world heritage site. Standing on the ancient caravan route through the Atlas mountains, this fortified city or ‘Ksar’ has grown up over the last five hundred years, its location dominating the landscape for miles around.

Deep red sun-baked Kasbah's are elaborately decorated and crenulated, perched one above another hugging the mountain slope.

My Log...

A long hard day on the road, with plenty of stops as the poor kids are now suffering from a variety of travel sickness and other complaints.

Early evening saw us at our penultimate hotel with an amazing view.

A short if not uphill walk saw us to the top of the Kasbar and what an amazing place this is....

Relaxed and not quite as well fed tonight (food not brilliant, Poor Peter a bit green on a rotton egg !)
