Pre Blog

Another day with not much objective but to enjoy the pool or maybe walk down into the streets below and explore the narrow streets or sit by the harbour and enjoy the views over a glass of wine !

Live Blog

Woke up at 9am and sat on the veranda for a very slow breakfast including eggs and bacon and afterwards found our way down to the sun deck for a bit of sunbathing.

Around 10.30 I left Donna and decided to go and have a play in the gym. 15 minutes at 10 degrees running uphill on the running machine followed by 15 minutes on the bike. 295 calories lost was the combined result !!!!

We then set off in the car around the coastline to the south of Sorrento via Termini and eventually would our way down hairpin bends to a small harbour/beach village with a range of cafés and restaurants along the front. The sort of place in the height of the season you would have to park miles away and walk in. Today Marina Del Cantona was deserted. We parked right down at the centre. Donna has just described this place as 'Cornwall in the sun without the pasties'.

With all the restaurants empty we had our pick and found one with tables on a veranda over the cobbles of the beach with the odd group of locals popping in for a quick chat. At the end of the beach a posh restaurant was being filled with people appearing in posh yachts being ferried back and forwards by the restaurants own boat !!

We ate mozerello and tomato salad for lunch (such wow flavours) and followed that by a large dish of locally made ice cream (5 flavours). Well that blew the 295 calories I lost a couple of hours ago !!

We sat and sunbathed in the shade of the veranda for a couple of hours...

On the way back to the hotel we stopped in a very small village, that looked as if it was back in the 19th C I popped into a small village shop that seemed to have a huge amount of stock, but nothing you probably ever needed !!

I asked for a bottle of white wine, and was immediately told but the very old lady serving that I did not want any of the ones on the shelf. I left with Mama's wine in an unmarked bottle for 3 euros. Mama must have been Olga, because that's what the shop was called.

We opened the wine at the hotel and wow - a great wine !

After a quick wash and brush up we jumped back in the car and travelled the half an hour back to the same place for evening meal - it was surreal - the whole place was completely deserted, just a couple of restaurants open with waiters looking lost !!

We sat down outside with the darkness all around with the waves lapping just below our feet, some call it private dining !!!

The meal and service was amazing, we opted for a cold meat selection with tomato and mozzarella side dish, and when Donna and Helen had Spaghetti with tomato I opted for spaghetti with mussels.

Yum but surreal !!!

We left and they closed the restaurant, possibly the village !!
