OK we managed to get out of bed and after a hearty breakfast of sausage and egg (thai style) we had a quick nip out to the local market before returning for 12 midday.... Oh dear the rest of the gang went out last night and were rather hungover ! They spent the rest of the day in the hotel resting, so Chai ordered us taxi (Donna, Helen and me) and we went to a temple high in the sky on a mountain over looking chaing mai.... The temp up here was cool, thank god as the earlier day storms have now cleared and it was great up here.
To be continued ....
Tropical storms have passed but still grey and missley but improving. This mountain temple is amazing. Our private taxi (songatheu) dropped us off at nearly the top of the mountain after a hair-raising journey up endless u bends and we clambered into the cable car for the last part. The temple complex was tranquil and quiet except for the clanging of bells by the visitors. Beautiful flowers, trees and bonsai. After Donna had forgotten long sleeves she borrowed a shawl from another British visitor and we entered the inner sanctum. Amazing and gold (see pictures)
After returning to the hotel stephe Charlie and Sophie still looked green, but Rachel seemed to be improving faster we all started on a western food fest! I went out to pizza hut to get some pizzas for tea on the train and the rest had burgers and chips in the restaurant. Chaing mai railway station was nice ( see pictures) and monkey made an appearance after somehow avoiding the trekking. Obviously more intelligent than us !
Must be getting used to the overnight trains as we were all asleep in our bunks by 9pm. Even the toilet compartment was kind to us and you could enter without breathing apparatus ! On our first trip on the train we had a train waiter that constantly in Thai accent said "orange juice" and guess what the same bloke appeared again on this train, looking after the same carriage, still selling juice. He shouted out his phrase and the whole group of burst out laughing, which seemed to have a huge impact on the waiter and obviously gave him a complex as we never saw him again. !!!! Shame it was the highlight of the trip !
