After the adventures in the north of the country, we now start to head south, and slightly more relaxing !

The morning started in Bangkok when the new formed group had a free day as the overnight train to Surat Thani did not leave until 6.30pm that evening.

Chai decided to show us the extreems of Bangkok and we first had a short walk to Pier 13 and then caught the normal boat down the river to Pier 1.  This boat was heaving and we were squashed on like sardeens.  After arriving at the peir we then clambered on board the newly installed sky train, riding high above the chaotic streets of bangkok in luxury with air conditioning.  A short time and half way accross bangkok we arrived at the MBK shopping centre, which to show all the squaller outside this place is amazing, it puts some of Britains shopping centres to shame.

6 floors of shopping which so many shops and stalls that you could buy anything you like all in the 5 star luxury that we are used to in the modern world, with an amazing multicultural restaurant on the top floor, each country having its own little chef and section that you could mix and match food from all over the world.

Amazing enough Donna and me had Thai !  We must be getting used to its now, Helen went for an american club sandwich and fries that was so huge that they gave her a doggy bag and she ate the rest on the train for tea that evening.

After this shopping experiance which even had outside air conditioning !  we then progressed 100 yards around the corner into the normal squaller of Bangkok, amazing how close the two extreems are together.  After walking down alleyways that Donnas horse would not live in we approached a rather discusting sewer (oh it was a canal)  After waiting for 10 minutes a canal bus came along and we all clambered  in, paying our 15 Bht and had a "delightful" tour round the back alleys with should a say "amazing views" of how the other half of Bangkok live.

Eventually we jumped off and arrived around 1/2 hours walk from the hotel back through more familiar streets to our hotel.

Here we go again, just about back and Chai was hording us into taxi's for our next journey to the next stage and the national park.

Oh dear, you know we said previously how good the trains were, and we have been telling our new group members not to be worried, well we must have been travelling in first class up and down to Chaing Mai, these trains suddenly were 2nd or 3rd Class (the beds were half as narrow)...  Any way not to worry, bedding still clean and tidy if not freezing with the air con, that made everyone complain.....

We were all absolutly drained tonight and this saw everyone in bed and asleep by 8.30, Helen somehow fell asleep in Rachels bed, and never used her bunk all night, the first thing Rachel knowing about it was the next morning when she awoke to find Helens feet in her face !

Been having trouble with the fire alarm. Managed to shut it up but I don't think it's set at the moment. Any comments?
