I exchanged my few remaining Baht for Euros and headed off to Belgium. I am always excited to travel by plane and boarded my flight on Lufthansa with excitement. My mood changed as I squeezed my body into the seat; wrapping my legs around my ears and my arms under my butt as I prepared for the overnight journey. I befriended my neighbor who was equally unimpressed with a having to undergo such physical torture in the name of air travel. After joking about our discomfort we decided it would be best to down a sleeping pill and try to get through the flight unconsciously. I was delighted to find out that, yes, I can sleep upright as long as I am properly inebriated.
After touching down in Frankfurt I boarded a train to Belgium and was amazed by the speed and efficiency of their service. I was stunned at the beauty of the German countryside as the train sped beside the river at 280 km/h. The train arrived on time in Leuven, Belgium. It was just like Via rail back home only it works.
Upon arrival in Leuven I was reunited with my girlfriend, Dara, who had been studying philosophy at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and would now act as my local tour guide. We took in all the sites around town including the Stella Artois brewery and a statue of a man reading philosophy and dunking a beer over his head (see picture). I was then put on a regimented diet of Belgian beer, waffles and fries.
Aside from taking in Leuven life, we took trips to Brussels, Antwerp, Brugge and Amsterdam. Diamonds, canals, cobblestone, shopping, museums, churches, and coffee shops invaded out senses and reunited me with the western world. I explored the Half Moon brewery in Brugge along with its canals and herds of elderly tourists. And in Amsterdam I explored my mind. I'll leave it at that.
This is in fact my final blog. I left home on November 10th, 2005 and have returned on April 30th, 2006. I look forward to seeing many of you in the near future and yes, of course, you can all take me out for a drink.

explored your mind? nice.
Captain Robino,

So nice to read that you've arrived home safe and sound. Hope you stayed away from those Thai girls - antibiotics don't clear up everything.

Be well.

Kim.
