the last few hours in Guatemala... Leaving Guatemala was a little sad, and i realised how much i had liked the place. In a brief time id seen so many beautiful places and met such great people that i knew i could easily have spent a lot longer there(i know its a clich but its true...). But with the clock ticking and coming up to halfway on the (so-far planned) Central American leg of my journey I thought i must get moving towards Costa Rica soon. But im resolved to come back again one day, and also visit southern Mexico, particularly the Zapatista heartland of Chiapas which I unfortunately wont have time to visit this time around.

I left Livingston on the 5am boat by myself, still a bit sick from the tapado, but quickly met a Dutch girl, Barbara, getting off the boat in Puerto Barrios. This was good because her haggling skills and spanish are much better than mine but she also turned out to be a great travel buddy. She was also heading to Utila and so we made our way across the border and across northern honduras, via several bus changes. A transport strike shut down our road close to Tela, so we had to walk for a little while, and we met up with 3 others heading for Utila as well. The road opened again and we got underway to La Ceiba for the first night in Honduras.
