Today, we tour Panmen Gate and shop. Panmen Gate is in the southwest section of the city and is the only remaining portion of the gate that surrounds ancient Suzhou. Some of the gate dates back more than 2,000 years. One part of the wall has a bridge that contains two iron gates that can be dropped down to control the water flow. Right near the gate is another Suzhou pagoda -- Auspicious Light Pagoda.
We end up at Carrefour, the second one to open in Suzhou, and it was actually on Thursday. (The balloons are still out.) I have never been to Carrefour and Ben describes it as the French Wal-Mart. It is one of the few places that you can shop where you don't have to bargain. I buy mostly baby clothes.

Interesting!
Hi Bobby,
You brought me memories of the UAE. We would drive more than one hour (from Al-Ain to Dubai) just to go do our shopping at Carrefour. I really liked the selection of goods that French supermarket had. We still have stuff that we bought there including all of our camping equipment.
Hope you have a safe trip back home.
