Carolyn, Ben and I made our first trip to Soochow University today. We met with Tan Yu Kim, the Director of the Overseas Students program. Soochow currently has a thousand foreign students from 36 countries.

Things went well as we discussed the possibility of having Cy-Fair College students come study Chinese language and culture next year. We were impressed with the campus and facilities. The University was started in the early twentieth century by American missionaries. Some of the orginal buildings remain.

Check out some of the photos I have posted.

Hello from Cy-Fair!
Hi Bobby!
Thanks for an interesting blog. The university looks beautiful, and it is fun 'seeing' China through your eyes. Say hi to Carolyn and Ben for me!

Great Blog Bobby!
Bobby,

Thanks for the vivid description and the great photos. Reading/seeing China through your eyes is very powerful. I have never considered a visit, but you have won me over in three posts. Keep up the great work.

Bobby, How is the quality of the air in the cities and how about the local environment? I remember from Two Years on the Yangtze....that industrialization was causing environmental problems faced by all industrialized nations. Do you think China has a handle on these issues and has an interest in leading the world to some solutions? Enjoying Kris and Maddie, Lynne

Hi Bobby,
Amazing blog! I am really enjoying your descriptions of the city. It sounds as though this will be a wonderful place to introduce our students to the Chinese culture. Enjoy the rest of your time! Jo

Hi Bobby, Aunt Carol Here
Been following your travels. Sounds like a wonderful trip. Some of us were discussing the air quality there this AM at the Y. Al, having just returned, says all his photos are hazy from smog, etc.. Hope your areas of travel are not so bad. Enjoy and safe home. Love, 'AC'
