We returned home successfully on Monday evening.  I have been back at work, teaching yesterday and today, so I have been slow to complete the blog.

The travel home was long and slow, like you would expect.  It also went very smoothly.  We cabbed it from our hotel in Ostia Antica to the Rome airport.  We had a good smooth flight to Heathrow, getting a really good look at Corsica and the French Alps enroute.  The transition from Heathrow to Gatwick went much smoother than I expected.  National Express dropped us at Gatwick North about 1:40 after we deplaned at Heathrow.  Our flight to Houston was not full and Dad, Buck and I each scored an empty seat next to us.  Give a big pat on the back to the folks at Boeing--that 777 gives a nice ride, even back in the aft cabin "steerage".  For me, the highlight was the fantastic view of the northern tip of Newfoundland.  I have always wanted to visit the Viking site at L'Anse aux Meadows.  I was able to pick it out from the air as we went over.  (BTW, if you are going to Newfoundland in the near future, take a coat.  The snow cover was still pretty thick.)  We cleared baggage, passport and customs in Houston in about 45 minutes.  A word to travelers, if you have a chance to do an international arrival in Houston, consider it to be a good option.  There is a new facility which handles the flow very efficiently and I have never faced long lines there.

I will attempt one more entry with the intention of reviewing all of my different arrangements.  I used several different methods to arrange parts of this trip and I hope to give and evaluation of them.  We'll see how well the brain continues to function.

Update:  I have been asked repeatedly where I am in these pictures.  I do not enjoy being photographed and usually avoid it.  However, Buck left me copies of many of his photos so I have sorted through and found a few "best of" shots of me to post.  Reluctantly.
