Nice to wake up dry and sleeping on sheets at the Pine Ellis Hostel. About 30 minutes later the downpour starts. Raining so hard that I got soaked just running from the bunkhouse to the main house. I was going to take a shuttle with some other guys but then they backed out so I had to pay for the whole shuttle. Hit the trail at 8:15. The hostel guy handed me an apple as I hit the trail, sort of made walking in the rain better.
Can't complain though, things are way cooler and instead of soaking wet from sweat I got the much cleaner soaking from rain experience. Of course soaking wet shoes ALWAYS stinks.
First climb up Old Blue is easier than expected! Things are slippery but going up is always easy compared to the descent. Slipped a lot on the way down but did a pretty good job staying on my feet.
Passed a bunch of SOBOs and a group of Quebec girls. Passed infos and kept moving. The rain ended midday but the trees continued to be soaking the rest of the afternoon. My pack cover is still not waterproof and so I'm sleeping in a wet sleeping bag tonight. Nothing new though!
Fell a couple times later in the day on slippery roots that I didn't properly identify. Nothing gets your attention quite like ending up sprawled out in the wet mud. Minimal blood though. Really pretty quiet day otherwise, only did 17 just because of the shelter layout. Beautiful pond here by the shelter but there's leeches and also resulting mosquito party. I would have liked to swim but hopefully I'll get a good hot day with sun and do that soon enough.
Realizing that I would rather be doing anything else than hiking right now. My current pet peeve is everyone keeps saying congratulations when I meet them, or "you're almost there" I don't feel this is at all the case! I still have over 10% to go! Oh well all I can so is just keep hiking. SOBOs are saying Katahdin should be in view in the next few days. That should help in the
