Well today on the trail was very uneventful. The most important thing is that after the shelter, the rocks ended! We heard this would be the case, but to actually see it happen was glorious.
We only did an 8 mi day to reach the turnoff for Unionville, NY. Now before we get all excited about another state, I cheated...the trail doesn't actually cross into NY until another 20 Or so mi at least.

The town is a quick stroll from the trail and we walk in and inquire about finding "the Mayor's" which is the former mayor of Unionville who allows hikers to totally take advantage of his place. He takes us in and feeds us dinner and breakfast, first beer is free, free soda, shower, laundry, etc. The caretaker guys who are around are really fun NY kind of guys. The older guy, Bill, is hilarious. They have a rule that cussing is allowed, but if you say any word longer than 4 syllables (except your home state and anything to do with the AT) then you have to pay 25 cents. Bill gets Willard to slip up right away, but so far hasn't managed to get me. My vocabulary includes a lot of longer words so it's funny to try really hard to say short simpler phrases.

We also walk into town and have some great sandwiches at Horler's General Store. Sitting on the porch on a beautiful sunny 75ish degree day is just wonderful. I am reminded by many good times on the porch in Kalamazoo.

We are shuttled into a bigger town to do our resupply at the A&P. I am happy to also buy a whole cherry pie to eat and split a package of klondikes with Willard... The things we can eat, and even after a big lasagna dinner!!

So we have been more than well treated, and only have to leave around a 10 buck donation.  Some people along the way are so generous...and they add so much warmth and entertainment to the trail experience.  Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be unpleasant but I guess that'll just mean put my head down and hike.

Hope everyone Is well. Meant to answer the question about detouring around the rattlesnake... Didn't have to because the trail was wide enough and when I noticed him I had already passed it! (of course I paused to take some photos though, which will someday get uploaded!)
