Hey there,
So gonna get right to the theme of today: rain. Oh and wind. And uh, cold.

Woke up to a rainstorm which significantly delays my departure because let's face it: who wants to leave the warm, dry shelter for that yuckiness. It wasn't really fun walkin today.  After 8 mi there was a campground but I missed the turn off for the campstore... Not going to go backwards, however I did find a restroom. I unashamedly admit to spending 1.5 hours there using the electric hand dryer!! quite liberally. (goes against eerything I believe in!)

Then went out and got wet again, walking to Skyland Lodge. This is like the ritzy place to be for all the drive through tourists, so as you can imagine I fit right in. Ate a pulled pork BBQ sandwich w/ fries and a Blue Moon ( since no Oberon was available) and then followed it up with a raspberry cobbler. This lifted my spirits substantially!

The trudge today through the rain was made pretty horrible by new blisters on my upper heels, to the point that it is altering how I walk. I think it might have some to do with the rain which absolutely soaked my shoes. Today marks a full week that's it's rained each day. Not a fan, though I realize it's necessary. Just tired of the wind and 50 degree temps that seem to come with the rain.  I'm also suspicious of these weather predictions that say "30% chance of rain". If it always rains that's gotta be more than 30% or we just have terrible luck.

Got to the shelter though and there was a spot left and a fire going... Hooray. I was a bit overzealous and burned my socks a little bit. Also, major problem is that I placed my trailrunners kind of near the fire and some of the glue failed so they are coming apart a little bit. I tried to crazy glue them back together but I dunno if that'll last 5 min on the trail. Might have to resort to duct tape.  Stupid mistakes like this are ones that you don't want to repeat, but right now my spirits are low. With rain predicted for the next week I'm just ready to get the heck outta Virginia!

Hope everyone is warm and dry in a nice cozy house. I could go for a bit of that right now. Guess somewhat dry, lukewarm, and a three sided shelter will have to sufice.

Hi Rob! Are the ticks out there the kind that carry lime disease? Dave is always talking about the ticks in the UP. They are wood ticks and do NOT cause lime disease. I sure hope the ones down there are wood ticks (actually I wish there were NO ticks!) I can't imagine having them on you--yuck!! Hope the rain quits pretty soon for you. Wow! Over 900 miles! Go Rob!!
