Hey hey!
So we are in TOWN!   FELIZ Cinco de Mayo!!!
Woke up at 5:15 this morning to hit the trail towards town. 17 miles is a lot to get into town and still try to enjoy.  The first miles go nicely as the temp is still in the 50s and the sunshine is nice. Highlight of the day is Tinker Cliffs, some nice sandstone cliffs that reminded me a bit of my hike at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore... Of course instead of a blue lake below, here we have a sweeping view out over a beautiful valley.

The rest of the hike is along a big ridgeline, quite long and quickly getting very hot. The hike definitely becomes a trudge and I nearly gave it up a couple times. Sat down and ate the last of my sugary things.

Finally I descend off the ridge (we walked this whole ridge just to get to a nice powerline, or so it seemed) and you can hear the freeway traffic!!  Hit town at about 12;45 which is awesome hiking time in the grand sceme of things! We agreed to meet at the Pizza Hut, so I cross the hwy and roll in. It's nice to approach a restaurant and see a bunch of packs lined up outside!
We get the AYCE breadstick, soup, and salad lunch. Somewhat healthy you may note.... The pizza wasn't an option!

Spend the afternoon getting some rooms at the Howard Johnson, going to the outfitters, and resupplying at Kroger. Town chores aren't so taxing. I cave and buy some Little Debbies, but it's been like 200 mi so I feel I can splurge!

In the evening we go to the Mexican restaurant across the street to celebrate the fake holiday of cinco de mayo. (for those of you that DON'T know, it is not Mexican Independence Day (that's on 16 Sept) but actually it's just a small victory of the Mexicans over the French)

Mexican restaurants certainly don't seem to mind celebrating though :)  So we get some nice platters of beer and pitchers of food...perhaps too many platters of beer :) after hiking, there is something really great about having a cold beer, and all we had to do was walk to the hotel across the street!

So it's been a nice day in town. I might zero here tomorrow... It depends on how I feel. I just talked with my dad and it sounds like the flooding is really awful in Nashville. Glad my mom was still able to fly out! It's so helpful to have them at home taking care of my finances, mail, sending me stuff, etc. Plus having their support and the support of all of you has been really helpful so far. So thank you!

Because they changed their summer vacation plans, I'm not really rushing to beat those plans.  Maybe I can take a few more days off along the way!  Beautiful evening and beautiful sheets. Goodnight!
