Hey everyone! Writing from woods hole shelter about a half mile to the west of the AT just shy of Blood Mountain. It's quite crowded but I got here early enough to get a spot in the shelter!

Today was a pretty good day, did about 13 miles plus some backtracking due to uncertainty about where I was gonna sleep... Silly extra miles that would have been avoided had I looked at the map (you'd think after spending all that money on the maps I'd rely on them more!)

Couple of big hills today but nothing killer. Met some nice people along the way, including a guy that hiked the AT, PCT, and CDT. His advice was to keep up the motivation and this 10 words of 2 letters phrase: "if it is to be, it is up to me!"

Thanks for all the words of encouragement, got email reception for about 10 minutes :) my mom is fine after staying the night at a hiker hostel and she should be back in TN.

So, 1% of the trail done! The rumor is tomorrow neel's gap has free all you can eat spaghetti supper... AMEN to that! Food is the religon of the trail :)

Hope all is well back in civilization. Crossed a highway today and a
guy was doing trail magic out of his car, creme brle flavored
almonds... Weird to see cars flying by.  Tomorrow is blood mtn, hopefully I'll get over it with little
bloodshed!!
Good nite

Ps text messages seem to be the best way to reach me if need be, they
load faster than email... Otherwise keep commenting and stuff ;)

Hi Robert,

Bout time I checked in with you. For whatever reason, i can't access this at the office probably due to spam filtering. So this is the first time I've been home earlier enough to get on the home computer.

Its exciting to hear where you are and what you are doing! Mom sat in your spot at dinner tonite...made it seem like missing you less. Please be careful, I keep hearing about hypothermia, lighting, and bears!

It looks real good to meet up with you Easter weekend. Can't wait to see you and I need a change of pace besides!

Love
Dad.

hey rob,
i took the kids to the zoo this morning... first time since i think you were here. anyway, robert kept asking if you were coming. i guess he associates you with the zoo now (ha ha) i told him you were heading this way but walking. i don't think he could wrap his head around it so i'm getting a big map out to show him where you are and where we are so we can track you like NORAD tracks santa :-) it's definitely fun to follow along!
