time to get out and about we thought so looked up time tables for buses to tempe and surrounding areas..
worked out our plan and set off, however when we were chatting to the trolley driver, who are always so friendly, we discovered we could get to tempe on a free bus that meets our scottsdale free trolley, on mckellips road ... we got off and after waiting a few minutes noticed a map which indicated we were at the wrong stop, we asked a friendly looking local and he confirmed we needed to be on the other side of the traffic lights... not an easy task on a 6 lane road .. then we saw the tempe bus at the lights eeek..we had to get across before it turned how lucky were we the little white pedestrian man started flashing and we crossed and ran ...
arriving at tempe bus terminal with no map was a mistake however being quite well organised street maps were posted at the bus stops, so we wandered downtown and it was almost unrecognizable to last week when stalls covered the roads.. now downtown was bustling with buses and cars everywhere ..
we saw on the map Tempe beach so as I was getting withdrawal symptoms we headed there next... how sad that now, for health and safety reasons, all signs of beach were gone.. in the 1800`s sand was brought in to the riverside and a park built so the victorians could swim and sunbathe in their leisure time.. now just a few paddle boats and canoes were moored up waiting to be hired out and just sheer concrete walls at the riverside with no access at all..
we made a plan to return to tempe for robins birthday next week..
