We arranged with the newly weds to go out for breakfast next day and the setting was awesome , Mark took us to a really super resort hotel overlooking a lake and golf course, so loads of green grass and a few ducks... and the menu was superb.. the weather was warm and sunny as we sat chatting and eating watching Mark and Svetlana opening their wedding cards...

The four of us then left the newly weds for the day, in the morning we walked around old town Scottsdale where they have kept the cowboy theme.. The whole of the Phoenix area used to be  just one big ranch and this part has a few old buildings with swinging doors saloons and wooden walk ways..also many red indian shops selling dream catchers to colourful feather headdresses. We arranged to meet up for dinner in Keirland just north of Scottsdale.. for Ian and Jo s last night..

Friday morning we were left on our own again as Ian and Jo drove to San Diego and then back to LA to fly home to Sydney.. It was great to see them and we all had a super time together..

We enjoyed our next few days just lazing by the pool, swimming and going in the hot bubble tub, which was as it said on the tin, really hot..!! but very good for aching backs..

On saturday evening we went over to the Historic Downtown Glendale
which comes to life each christmas with the addition of about 1.5
million multi-coloured twinkling holiday lights, known as Glendale Glitters, it is located throughout a twelve-block area that includes the Old Towne and Catlin Court
Districts. Arizona's Best Hometown Holiday tradition shines brightly
from 5 to 10 p.m. all through December..and all the brightly decorated cute shops, converted from the old time wooden detached houses,  stay open until 10pm at the weekend..there are numerous stalls for food and drink and xmas gifts along with horse and cart rides and a fun fair.. an awesome evening and something we had never experienced before on such a large scale..

On Sunday Mark and Svetlana took us to Tempe just south of Scottsdale for an art festival.. the whole centre of Tempe main streets were closed to traffic and over 200 stalls set up craftware and arty goods to sell... we saw some awesome things from paintings to sculptures , crystals to laser art and garden ornaments to leather purses... it was a really colourful atmosphere we just browsed and Robin and I tried our first corndog... a frankfurter sausage on a stick dipped in a corn batter and fried..but not really to our taste.. a great day though ...

Tuesday Mark flew off to chilly Minnesota for three days on business so Svetlana kindly took us shopping and then stayed for dinner we had a very nice evening chatting....

Saturday evening we had a bbq at our place , Mark cooked a huge steak and I rustled up some chicken kebabs which turned out very well, afterwards we had a super game of pool in the clubroom ..

Sunday 9th we climbed Camelback mountain .... The views were superb we could see all across the valley from Scottsdale to Phoenix airport... the trail starts off steep but well trodden, however as you reach the summit it almost becomes a mountain climb on all fours... I have to admit I gave up about 200ft from the top and Robin kindly stayed with me while Mark and Svetlana continued to the peak...they had done the climb before but it looked very tricky to me.. It was three hours of fun and exercise and so glad we managed most of it..

The next few days were spent riding trolley buses around to get our
bearings on the surrounding area..and shopping for food while trying to source english style ingredients for our xmas lunch, I had promised to cook for the four of us..sausages, bacon and mincemeat proving the hardest to find..
