For the first time in a few weeks we woke up to a lovely warm van.. and kicked off the duvets... the noise of the 101 road had kept us awake a bit but we felt reasonably rested... the sun was shining and the sky was blue what more could we ask..

mark came to fetch us from the car park and we spent the day chatting and sorting out tonights stay perhaps somewhere quieter.. Svetlana cooked an awesome prawn curry and we moved the van to its new location .. a more peaceful car park..

Thursday wasThanksgiving so Mark and Svetlana picked us up for our first mountain hike.. we drove to the Mcdowell mountains and parked at the base, in 124th street ,ready to climb the Sunrise Trail.. this trail straddles the mountainous divide between Scottsdale and Fountain hills.

it is a gentle hike at first with hundreds of cactus lining the path, growing to about 30ft tall, after about 1.5miles you reach the saddle  where you get the first views over the dessert and back to the city and then the final steep climb up to the summit 3069ft above sea level.. the views were amazing and I had never climbed a mountain and reached the summit of anything so high before so it was a great achievement.. in these temperatures too.. I think Robin found it easier than me..thank goodness we took loads of water..!!

They dropped us back to the van to change for dinner and Svetlana cooked us roast for our first ever thanksgiving meal... a super few days..
