so we packed up the car and set off for our last walk in the rockies... we parked on the other side of Estes this time and walked up to gem lake.. from this walk we had super views back to the snowy peaks we had climbed yesterday..

here nearer the town the snow was very sparse but the rocks were amazing, now very rounded huge boulders surrounded us in the gorge . i could feel the Red Indians hiding at the top of the cliffs looking down on us with their bows and arrows..hehe... robin said i had a good imagination and Ian thought I was just mad..!! ..I think..

the path climbed very steeply and soon we were looking down onto the little town of estes with the snow covered peaks in the distance.. it was awesome.. we carried on climbing steeper and steeper with more and more views back down..  after 1:45hr we reached the peak where gem lake sat nestled between huge cliffs .. this lake was not frozen but full of pure clear blue water..well worth the walk..

luckily the clocks went back in colorada today giving us time to do this walk, but now the minutes were ticking away and with both us having planes to catch we hurried back down in only 45mins... good going for a couple of old uns ...and me.....sorry Ian ..hehe..

the drive to the interstate highway was very picturesque with interesting rocks forming a gorge through the little village Drake and again I felt the Indians...!! the fast flowing river ran all the way by the side of the road and the houses were isolated but so cute and varied..

after a quick stop for lunch we arrived safe and sound at the airport..Ian flew to New York and we flew to san Francisco..

what another super day and thanks Ian for arranging to meet us there it was awesome..
