hi all

Well puno is not great...the streets into the town were very run down as we approached from arequipa.. the town is built up on a hillside and as we got nearer the centre some improvement was noticable but not much..

the bus station itself was like a market auction...as we collected our luggage all we could hear was.....CUSCO CUSCO CUSCO......AREE... AREE.. AREE... AREE.... AREQUIPA  the different touts were yelling this across the bus station constantly ..another new experience..

taxi found we arrived at our hotel.. very nice inside..robin loved the jacuzzi...but we were on a main street and the toots of horns from traffic was deafening...!!! ..ok not that bad...but bad enough..but we had an excellent internet connection and were delighted to see my sons, mark and ian were on skype and we spoke from peru to sydney and pheonix for an hour it was great as we made plans for our family xmas in oz...

while we were on skype puno had a rain storm...it was amazing the water was gushing down the steep narrow streets and people were running for cover grabbing their stalls and produce... this was the first rain we had had so far on our trip..and guess what within half an hour everything was back to normal, sun was out, streets drying off and sellers back on duty...!!

a walk round puno was pretty uneventful and not exactly the best place to be.. the plaza de armas was as ever well done and well kept but the shops were dirty and run down in general.. we ate at a little restaurant with a real pizza oven in the restuarant itself and the food was ok... cocktails still cheaper than wine..

and that really was puno, so leaving our luggage we set off to bolivia, looking forward to our return trip in 3 days time ..well sort of..!!
