After an overnight bus from Nasca our arrival in Arequipa was a bit fuzzy... the bus was comfortable and we were able to sleep but not deeply..so we found a taxi and safely arrived at our hotel los tambos... very nice place, so friendly and spoke english..and they let us go to our room at 10am so we could have a small doze before Carlitos arrived at 2pm for our tour..

Carlitos Tours is excellent..he is a great guy with excellent english...friendly and helpful and he went with us to buy our bus tickets for puno and cusco..he showed us arequipa and the local market for fresh fruit juices which we tried and all the herbal medicines in another stall.he explained we should drink coca tea now as we were now 7800ft above sea level. ..he explained the plaza de armas and showed us the volcanoes in the distance...

After the 2 hour tour we freshened up and went to eat in a nice restuarant overlooking the plaza..it was a very awesome day.....

........we returned to los tambos after our excellent 2 day trek in colca canyon with carlitos....and our bags were already in our room..we had left them in store with the hotel for the trek...as we had eaten a lovely buffet lunch in chivay in the canyon , we decided to look for just a snack in arequipa. we walked from the plaza down a nice shopping mall all modern and well laid out and found a nice little sandwich bar which made them to order, we had chicken which was very tasty..

As it was getting dark we decided to go to the travel agents to book train tickets to machu picchu and our plane ticket from Cusco to Lima... a very helpful lady who spoke english sorted all this out for us and just as we were about to pay by credit card all the lights went out.. Arequipa had a power cut, the whole town was out... so we promised to return the next day to pay and slowly found our way back to the hotel in the dark...!! .. the receptionist escorted us to our room with her torch and we went to bed in the dark an interesting end to the day...

Arequipa is the best town so far clean and tidy with small streets and the buildings are mostly made from the volcanic rock which Carlitos explained was white and Arequipa is actually known as the " white city "..a very enjoyable few days.....
