We travelled on through to eastern Czech, stopping at the lovely cobblestoned town of Olomouc, a university town with a huge square and lovely churches. We wandered around for a few hours and remembered our friend Michael, who was a medivac helicopter pilot in Czech a couple of years before, was based near here, and spoke of a good Czech friend of his, Delabour, who was still there.
So we contacted Michael and he got hold of Delabour for us and we arranged to meet him that night. Such a nice guy. We phoned him and arranged to meet up. He asked where we were and we said we were in the carpark of a ŽLidlŽ supermarket (a popular supermarket chain in Europe). He kept asking for the name of the supermarket and why we didnŽt meet at least in the carpark of a larger supermarket (ŽLidlŽ vs ŽlittleŽ- ah, gotta love the Australian version of English!). He showed us some local bars with a friend of his from the helicopter base and we had a great night swapping stories. Much fun and beer was had by all.
From Olomouc we drove round to southern Czech, to lovely authentic old villages whose facades and squares had changed little in hundreds of years, photogenic places like Telc, Jindrichov Hradec and Trebon. Really a different side to Czech away from the more touristed towns further north.
