Where I stayed
Well this entry has taken a week to write...... both Cliff and I made the trip safely home from Pensacola beach and arrived - dry and happy to a very warm welcome from the family!!!
It's a bit of a milk run along the I-10 heading East towards JAX however, the trip couldn't have ended better. We had just over 360 miles to cover - and it was pretty much all going to be highway miles.
An easy start after our last night on the road - we left Margaritaville in style and rode along the beach before heading North to intercept the Interstate. It's amazing, but the 20-30 min ride along the beach (right next to this amazing emerald green and at times azure blue ocean) - that all worries seem to drift away and you can very easily get lost in your thoughts
For a while as Cliff and I traveled east along the beach - I think we both did get lost in our thoughts. I picked David Bowie 'Greatest Hits' to keep us going and, for a while, it was just us, the bikes, 'Rebel Rebel', crashing waves and sand right up to the shoulder of the road. I'll remember this last ride for ever - it was so serene and peaceful; and poignant all the same. Knowing that I probably wouldn't ever get the chance to do this sort of ride again (never say never....but even 'Act II' couldn't top the ride Cliff and I have done) - I drifted off and thought about everything we had achieved over the last five weeks or so.........
I'll hopefully post some pictures soon of the Pensacola beach run so you can sort of get an idea of how beautiful the beach section really is.
A couple of more posts to this blog will follow as we go through our pictures and videos and backfill some of our stories. Thanks for reading this far..... I'll post this section so those following know we made it home safe. A few more updates and words to follow. Again.....thanks for staying with us on the trip.
Well it has taken me nearly two wks since the event to write my thoughts of our last day on the road, this time only two weeks ago we were enjoying our first night in Pensacola Beach at the fantastic Margarittaville hotel and that now seems like a lifetime ago, but back to the last days riding.
We left the hotel and as Glenny writes rode along and reshot some video along the side of the ocean and for many miles were riding on the dunes looking at the waves and thinking of all the adventure that this trip had provided that was now coming to an end. In truth I think the reason this last entry has taken so long to post is because neither of us really wanted to write the last chapter and close the trip!
Not much to report on the ride, pretty straight highways with lots of pine forests each side and not a massive distance to travel. It felt really weird for me realising that at the end of this day that was it, the bikes would be parked in the garage and no more riding................So with these thoughts in my head I went over all the highs that we had along the way and how great it was that we had covered over 15000km with no damage to the bikes or injuries to ourselves and our friendship strongly still intact
We stopped for a final beer 5 minutes from Glens house and gave each other some backslaps on what we had just achieved and took it all in before we finished.
As Glen says a few more posts will occur with our own "best parts" of the trip in more detail and bits we remember from certain days. Thanks to everybody who has logged on and read our humble blog, we have been stoked with your comments and feedback along the way.
Also a big thank you to all of the fantastic people that I was lucky enough to meet along the way, from the people on the street who asked us what we were doing, service people who chatted, the Navy crew in Dallas, the Hampsters and of course Glen who was the driving force in the trip even starting.
