Where I stayed
Wow what a place, I love it!!!
Slept in and had an easy ride to Pensacola but did encounter rain again over the last 5 miles again resulting in a drenching, looks like our luck with the weather is waning!!
Checked in around 14.30 then headed to the lobby bar for a late lunch and a couple of wines, I also then presented my Joker Card and advised Glen that we would be staying here two nights. Glen was happy and we couldn't have picked a better place right on the beach (Gulf of Mexico) at a Jimmy Buffett hotel called Margaritaville.
We have a room on the 5th floor with a balcony right on the ocean side with a great view, after 35 days on the road we totally deserve to have our last nights on the road here
Nice dinner of fish in house last night followed by a great conversation and a few drinks with a couple also here on holidays.
Todays theme was water, we started with a nice swim in the ocean followed by the hotel pool and a couple of cocktails. Glen is still down at the pool as I type this reading and I am sure enjoying a drink, we are meeting in the lobby at 16.00 for Margarita tasting:-)
Life is good and I feel so relaxed and also ready to head back to Jacksonville tomorrow and successfully complete this road trip.
All day on the ride from Jackson, MS the sky had been threatening to open.....and our 250 miles to cover was done (it seemed) between a corridor of thunderstorms. We left early-ish from Jackson to beat the storms, but as Cliffy mentions above .... 5 minutes before arriving at the hotel, all we could see was a squall line on the water as we crossed the bridge over the bay....and we obviously had to go through it to get to the hotel. Thoroughly drenched entails your boots also filling with water. The bikes have been through a lot, but some of the tropical puddles we had to get through where a bit dicey.
As Cliff mentions above, the hotel is great and right on the beach. Any self-respecting 'Parrot Head' would love this place with Buffet signatures and memorabilia scattered all around ! We met a lovely couple from Oklahoma (Dave and Vicki) - their daughter is married to an Air Force pilot in the Pensacola area and they had come down on vacation......except their daughter was actually back home in OK minding the property...... I laughed - they explained there was such a thing as 'seeing family' and having a 'vacation'.....this time they were on vacation. As with everyone we have encountered on this trip; people have been absolutely so friendly and nice and Dave and Vicki were no exception ...............
(except for the guy in Milwaukee - but Cliff and I think that was a case of mistaken identity....we were wearing our matching tour t-shirts (no, they didn't have coloured rainbows...) walking to the Harley-Davidson Museum and this wanker comes driving by horn blaring and flipping us off.......he may have had a family member sacked by H-D? Cliff and I might have been walking too close together? He may have thought we were someone else....anyway, that has been our only remotely unfriendly situation....we hugged, did some soul searching and spent hours in therapy.......I think we are finally over the trauma :)
Anyway, back to super-nice Americans....they really are and really have been on this trip. It's been great! Swimming on the beach has also been great - I've missed the water a lot on this trip.....we've swum nearly every day, but nothing is like diving under 3-4ft surf or body-surfing in the shore break. Had great day by the beach and pool and finished up with (free) Margarita tasting between 4-5pm........way to go Mr Buffet! Cheers
