We are indeed now on the other side of the pond!
We are currently sitting in the restaurant of the hotel in Orlando...we made it!
Yesterday was soooo hectic, but it was awesome! We left the UK, (the plane was late - nothing to do with us), and took off for the seven hour flight. I wasn't too bad, although coming down was awful; did actually have the sick bag out...lovely.
Coming through security wasnt too bad, although the officer at the desk thought it was particularly hillarious I didnt know the difference between my left and right hand (for the fingerprints). We left the airport, with me carrying about 20kg on my back, and headed into New York. It was really hot, and there was hardly any air at all - only when the yellow taxis zoom past you as you are trying to cross the road
Despite the lack of time we got to see the Empire State Building and then moved on to Times Square. They have a massive Toys R Us there - just shows how rubbish the one at Brent Cross is. It was all very very cool. Its a different vibe to London, still a lot of people, but not in the same kind of rush. We left there and took the subway to Ground Zero - very eerie. They are doing building work there now, but it is still so silent down there, even though they were working on it. There was a guy on the side of the street explaining about what happened, and asking for tips for telling us about the fact there were 7 buildings, and 7 seas and 7 days in the week....not sure if he was pointing towards conspiracy theories or not. The firestation is right next to Ground Zero and there was a large memorial for all the fallen firemen from 9/11. We stayed here quite a while and then moved on down to Battery Park (I think that was it), and from here we saw the Statue of Liberty. She looked kinda small in the distance, but I'm sure she's bigger if you get up close.
And then would you believe it was 6pm and we had to be at the airport at 7pm - uh oh. We raced around trying to find the PATH train, (a nightmare incase anyone comes here), and then couldn't work out what we were supposed to do. One thing is for sure, having a British accent gets you a lot of help here! The guy working for the train literally took us where we needed to go, and bought the tickets. Once we got off the PATH we had one stop on the NJ Transit to go, and we had to wait ages, the train didnt get there until 7:15, so yes already kind of late. We got on it and then had to get the AirTrain to the terminal, and got there, did the self check in thing (our bags had already gone on), and we were through security and everything by 8pm, 30 mins to spare before departure
We got on the plane and pretty much tried to sleep as much as we could, but got to the hotel about 2am. We are off to Harry Potter now - can't wait :)
Thanks Mum and Dad for keeping everyone updated. By the way, the aftersun leaked and it went on the towel, and the shampoo leaked and went over everything! Fun, Fun, Fun!
