Breakfast is served between 8am and 9am, which is perfect for anyone wanting to sleep in or venture out on a morning walk around the property. My mother and I took advantage of sleeping in.

Breakfast buffet offered hard boiled eggs, 7 grain oatmeal, dry cereals, orange juices, banana bread, PB&J sandwiches, and fruit. Coffee and tea were available 24 hours.

After breakfast we got our first lesson in meditation from Venerable Jampa. I have not met a wiser person in my life, I got the feeling that many participant shared my opinion. She had a wonderful sense of humor. We learned that it is okay to meditate sitting in a chair, and that it does not have to be quiet. Venerable Jampa was great with giving instructions on meditation: put your mind in a present moment, do not think about past or future, or your dreams. Your mind is always so busy and distracted, bringing it to the "now" moment is key. Focus on the breath- it is the most fascinating thing in your life. "Certainly would be the most fascinating occasion if you stopped breathing! That would get your attention!"- she joked. Venerable Jampa answered our questions, and we meditated for 25 minutes which is a good amount of time for a beginner. Gompa room, it was called, was beautifully decorated with shrines, it was warm and overall very relaxing. Meditation was a success!

Next was Qigong with Breige. The hour went by as if it was only 15 minutes: well-paced, easy movements helped move the energy evenly throughout the whole body. We started to learn a special move called "Wild goose 12", which is a series of repeat movements. Breige talked us through filling our internal organs with light to visualize their health and we also took the time to smile at our hearts, lungs, spleens and livers. That was different, but it did feel nice. After our Qigong session was over, everyone agreed that they felt very refreshed and energized on a different level.

Lunch time in the dining hall was a green salad with carrots, olives, tomatos, honey/lime dressing, grilled asparagus, green rice, white kidney beans, and wonderful fresh bread. Hats off to the Chef!

A bit of free time was spent by lounging in the warm California sun by the pool. By the way, in the mid-April the pool is still closed, but the area is open. The massage parlor and the sauna are open and located in the pool enclosure.

A nature walk with Ingrid is next. She does a great job explaining the ecology of the redwoods, and makes frequent stops to answer the questions from the group and let everyone catch their breath and enjoy the scenary. We have a bit more free time to refresh after the walk before learning about healing self massage from Caryl. She gives a thorough overview of pressure points through out the body. Interestingly, the hands and feet represent the entire body and all the internal organs, so we dedicate the time to massage every joint and push every pressure point.

Caryl’s class is followed by dinner. The chefs are treating us to vegetable barley soup, greek salad, peanut butter cookies, and freshly baked bread.

After dinner Linda teaches all of us about herbs. She passes around different plants either dried or fresh and explains their healing powers. Mint is most commonly found, but I was most impressed by it. It can be brewed as tea, it opens pores, treats sore throats, and fevers. It aids digestion and is overall an uplifting plant.

Our day has been full of activity, so my mother and I do not have any troubles falling asleep. The air is fresh and cool, window is open and beds are comfortable.
