We left Pearisburg VA, on the way out, there was a quick stop at Dairy Queen! Ice cream ☆ :)
The hike was awesome, was a bit cold today - of course I have not needed my jacket for the last two weeks.....so I sent it home, and am having my sister send me my ultra lite down jacket to Troutville, but it won't be here in time to keep me warm now.
It was a pretty nice hike today, nothing really funny/cool happened, was just a really great hiking day.
The campsite we found was 2 feet off the trail and we made a nice fire, ate a great dinner of rice/pepperoni rolls......tasted really good.

Sunday, May 18 2014

Woke up to a very cool morning.....again, it figures I send back my jacket to home....and then for the first time in two weeks, I want to wear it.
The fire from last night started right back up, morning tea and the fire was great on a cold morning like today!
We headed out, the slight breeze and cool temps kept me cool while hiking the first few climbs.
We stopped by a shelter to eat lunch. Finally a shelter with a real privy.....4 walls, a took, and.... (drum roll)......a real door! About damn time! Of course as luck would have it, my shorts layed in a spot of mud....then I stepped on them as I sat down. Took a while to clean the mud off my shorts and calf. (At least I hope it was mud...lol!)
Today was really great, first we went to the Captain's Place. It has a zip line to get across the river. The Captain gave us soda, we all talked, and he let me check out his KTM 500!
What a great guy, we never get tired of meeting great people like him.
After leaving the Captain's Place, more trail magic! Soda on the trail :)
We met the soda trail angels, they gave us trail magic beer also! Best part.....it didn't cost me $75.00 this time!
Our campsite is awesome tonight, it was a very old one, leaves filled the fire ring. I stacked a large bundle of fire wood, poured a good amount of 87 octane fuel on it, and ......instant campfire :)
There was sitting stones around the fire place, so all we had to do was enjoy dinner and the fire, til we decided to crash out.

Monday May 19 2014

Left camp at 1015 today, still a little cool out. It was pretty easy hiking, and nice and quiet today - most are still returning from the trail days party in Damascus - so the trail is empty.
We ran into Mountain Momma, who had left the trail yesterday because she hurt her back, but turns out she didn't hurt it as bad as she thought - so she is hiking again!
I have been on a kick of eating wraps.....everything taste great in a wrap! I have been hooked on rice/mashed potatoes and pepperoni wraps the last few days.....like little rolls of hiker crack!
Also I have started getting hooked on using baby wipes....my butt smells powder fresh, and is silky smooth - thanks to the added touch of Aloe on every wipe!
StarGazer's shin splints are getting better finally, she is able to get her shoe on without too much pain, and hiking down hill is getting easier for her also.
Heading down from the field, I am pretty sure I got to feed and pet the same donkey my other hiking group met during my 2008 thru hike! The farm itself is in total shambles - but the donkey is still there, and loving any attention it recieves.
Ran into some local kids, they were high as all get-out....lol..they kept talking about the large tree comming up...too funny. I told them to go talk to the donkey, because it was lonely. ..so they headed down to the donkey.

Tuesday
Woke up and had to face the huge climb....it sucked! At the top of the hill, I took a bathroom break, as I squated there, my butt wipes slide down the large rock and I had to retrieve them with a large stick! After retrieving the butt wipes, I finished up and then broke a large stick to "X" the area - so that no one else would go there - as I broke the stick, that scared a LARGE vulture that was directly under me, scared the heck outta me and I almost fell off the cliff edge..........what a great way to die, falling off the ledge backwards after going to the bathroom...lmbo!
We hiked up the trail to the power lines, that is when I found and caught a large rattle snake!! My first one of the season :) Hopefully there will be lots more!
Ran into Mountain Momma at the shelter that we stopped to eat at, she is doing okay but hurt her back earlier today. Hope it heals quick for her. While at the shelter we all got into the topic of pee bottles, for when it is cold at night, and you don't want to leave your sleeping bag. Mountain Momma was telling us how she practiced in a flat bottomed zip-lock at home, in her bath tub, she said it worked perfect everytime. Then when she went to use this technique in her tent, she finished peeing, lifted the bag.......and......not a drop a pee in the plastic bag! She missed, and there was pee all over her tent/sleeping bag and clothes.........the next morning she had to head back to town and wash everything! LMBO :)
Also ran into Long Bowl, the lucky S.O.B. was taken to a trout farm and caught 4 6 plus pound trout! They ate 6 all together :) . Very awesome for them.

Wed
What a great day, did about 10 miles, then trail magic ..... Jimmy (I believe's husband, she is hiking the trail) was driving our packs around The Dragon Trail mountain, so we could slack pack those 10 miles!! It was great :) .
After the slack pack, we met Jimmy again. He took us to the store, and then to Four Pines Hostel. What an awesome guy! Can't thank him enough.
It was an evening of playing darts/corn hole/ and shooting the shit with a bunch of other hikers I have not seen in a while. What a great time we all had.
The night of sleep was .....very little, between the electrical storm and a rooster that thought 2:30am was sunrise - we hardly slept a wink.
