Big NATO presence
Battle of Crete in WW2. Thousands of German troops parachuted into Chania on May 20 1941 where they overran Allied forces with high casualties on both sides. German occupation followed until 1945
Mosque of the Janisseries oldest Ottoman building on island and dates back to 1645 and arrival of Turks on island
Wooden Stairs of Samaria Gorge drop 3280 ft. in first 1 mile
Iron Gates at mile 7 has gorge walls only 10 feet apart
Chania capital of Crete until 1971; 50,000 pop
city walls built c. 1590

Chania is the Venice of Greece but no canals	Chania was a vibrant, charming town	Chaz models part of Southern Decadence outfit	Chaz provided us with many a chuckle
Chaz strikes a pose to show-off his manpurse	Crete is 155 miles long w/1 main east-west road	David put up with a scruffy-looking Bob	David was always an early riser
Duct tape used to hem capri pants held	Enormous, gorgeous bougainvillea eye-catching	Evi tried to show us a traditional Greek dance	Flowers were carefully tended everywhere
Gary demonstrating the bunny hop	Great friends in great setting	Group got me a birthday cake;you're super!	Group surprised me with cake&custom t-shirt:-)
Hopefully Mary can come visit us in Houston	I enjoyed winning at SkipBo with Cindy	I really liked Chania & would love to return	I'll always remember my tan&our great 2 weeks
Listening to poem thanking him for trip	Loutraki Beach has warm water and local crowd	Many different rulers reflected in Nautical Museum	Mary and Mike with a little dirty dancing
Mary livened up the group&was great fun	Mary was a wonderful addition in Crete	Mike brought his friends much closer together	Mike models his latest purchases
Mike takes a spin on the dance floor, literally	Mike&Becky drove like locals after a few days	Mike&Gary enjoying much needed vacation	Mosque of the Janissaries dates to 1645
Mountains top 10,000 feet with many deep gorges	Narrow alleyways had quaint restaurants	Never a dull moment with these four	Old Venetian walls had a 15meter moat too
One of my all-time favorite laughs	Our villa was about 15km outside of town	Our villa was perfect;washing machine&AC too!	Outdoor dining is the norm all around harbor
Parking tickets make carriage travel attractive	Phyllis busting a move on our final night	Phyllis looking good with her new tan	Prices & quality at villa restaurant were good
Problem with rental cars&taxi forgotten	Sidewalk vendors were a common sight in Greece	SkipBo was quite competitive w/lots of laughs	Special friends that I can always count on
The craziness got a little out of hand	The Mikes take a twirl;Phyllis used to antics	The star of the show	The villa was perfect!Plenty of room for everyone
This beach was packed every afternoon	Three special friends enjoying a stroll	Too bad you can't hear Don's laughter here	Venetian lighthouse guards entrance to harbor
Water was warmest we've encountered in Greece	We needed a sheepdog to herd the 14 of us	We really enjoyed our private pool at the villa	Wearing white&getting wet could be revealing
