Where I stayed

Kusadasi is the cruise port for Ephesus so it is often packed with daytrippers and not highly thought of by my guide book. We had a really long day and didn't get to Kusadasi until late so I didn't go out. Our hotel is up on a hill overlooking the town requiring a hike to get home. After a long day for Pamukkale I again didn't feel like going down the hill but did manage to see the town after our trip to Ephesus.

I walked the seafront promenade all the way out to the old fortress on Pigeon Island (now connected by narrow causeway to mainland). From there I had a nice view of town and just chilled out writing some postcards. There was a Starbucks and Burger King along the way which I guess spoiled the town for the writers of Lonely Planet. I walked back through some of the shopping streets off the promenade on my way to the post office. Post offices are extremely scarce in Turkey and most don't have after-hours mail slots so mailing a postcard is quite a challenge.

Getting back up the hill to the hotel wasn't as bad as I expected. I finished Ann Rule's Empty Promises as I'm working to lighten my backpack.

The Hotel Kusadasi Inn was not worth whatever we were paying for it. The place was quite worn and I didn't think it was very clean. I saw signs on waterfront hotels offering cheap rates so I'll be sure to note this on my comment card at the end of the tour. To make matters worse, on the day we left the water shut off right in the middle of my shower! I don't mean low water pressure either; I mean NO water. I waited and waited thinking it might come on but it never did. It would drip on occasion but I joined my fellow semi-stinky travelers as we left Kusadasi not a moment too soon.
