What I did
Arrived in Costa Rica
These travel blog posts are going to be a little different this time. I did not have internet access so I am writing these from Saturday 5/28. So I am going to do it this way, I am going to write the first day of our trip and then write the actual day of our trip and post them. Enjoy...
We arrived safe and sound to Costa Rica. After two long years of planning we made it back to Costa Rica with students this time. We had to wake up at 5:00 am to be at IAH airport at 7:00am. We did not have a bus to take the students, they had to get to the ariport on their own, which they all did. We did have one student that got lost at IAH and was about 30 minutes late. But she made it which was good. Wow, was she worried! our flight was nice and uneventful and we landed in San Jose at 12:00pm. We made it through customs and then headed straight to the gift shop to get the typical Costa Rican Host Sauce called Lizano so that we could have it with all of our meals while we were here. We bought $20 worth. Yep its that good. We connected with our guide Danny at thei airport with east and we loaded the bus. Danny was a super awesome guy with an awesome outgoing personality and humor so him and I connected instantly. We headed out on an 18 passanger bus but all the seats were taken with the 11 students 2 professors, guide, luggage and all the food for our stay at Campanario. We had to bring the food that we were going to eat for meals at Campanario since it is not close to any towns whatsoever. We stopped after 30 minutes to have a typical Costa Rican meal casado which is "rice and beans". Yes we will have this alot while we are here. It was excellent. Most of the students loved it, but others were not so fond since they were such picky eaters and were not sure what to think of eating a meal in a foreign coutnry for the first time in their lives. No whataburger for them!!! We got back on the bus and then headed to Sierpe, which was a 5 hour drive which SUCKED! not becuase of roads or traffic, but more because we were so excited to get here and then we had to be on a bus. Oh well. We finally made it to the town and checked into the hotel around 7pm. Not sure if you can qualify it as a hotel, since it was only 8 rooms in a town of 250 people. YIKES. It was swealtering hot and humid. Mosquitos were out in full force attacking from all angles. We went to dinner at a local cafe and guess what it was...Casado rice and beans. The students better get use to it. We then walked around the town square and learned about ancient spheres http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_spheres_of_Costa_Rica very cool. We next headed back to our hotel where I was able to call Courtney and check in and let her know we are safe. I hit the bed and waited for what awesome adventure was awaiting us the next day.
