I have celebrated the Fourth of July away from home many times but never like this. The thought of not going to Essence Fest is bad enough. At least in the states I can cook my own mac & cheese, bake some baby rack ribs and chow down on Louisiana style potato salad. Well there was obviously none of that in Milan. However, we did hear about this bar that hosts a July 4 buffet for 20 euros.
So we go down to te Brera area to check it out. On the way, I found the location for the new W Milan. We finally settled on this cute little bar for 6 euro drinks and appetivos. After happy hour, we made our way down the block to the bar. The buffet included baked beans, fatty ribs, chicken wings, potato salad, mini pickles, french fries, dry burgers, watermelon and brownies. I didn't make it through the entire selection. The food was not that good but it was a welcome change from pasta, pizza and sandwiches.
After a few hours, the "best" hip- hop DJ in Milan got the party started. I really think that Music is one of the few things Italy doesn't create because this music was 100% non-Italian. I'm talking Dem Franchise Boyz, Fat Joe, Lollipop, Soulja Boy, Rob Base and even Calabria 2007 (Enur featuring Natajsa), which happens to be one of my aboslute favorite songs! In case you are wondering, yes the Milano crowd knew the Soulja Boy dance. I guess you can credit one more minor miracle to Youtube. The DJ's transitions were horrible but what more can you expect in Milan!
We left at around midnight because it was very hot in the dance area and we had no clue when the final train arrived. We were pleased that we found this little bar with better than awful american food on this great summer holiday.
