Hi folks -

Today we decided to take a "day off" from the busy sight seeing and wandered through the Bath countryside along a public foot path for a few miles. Along the way we walked through pretty fields of flowers, bumped into some very friendly horses with their new babies, and stumbled upon a cool thatched roof home - which was on the market for $2.7 million pounds = $5.4 million USD!! After several days in the UK, we continue to be sticker shocked.

So much for a day off! We left the tranquility of Bath and our 1832 country home (no, we did not go broke but happy to change to a new currency in Poland), and began our transportation excitement:
--12:00 pm - left Bath via taxi to the Bath train station
--12:13 pm - caught Eurail to Paddington Station
-- 1:38 pm - arrived at Paddington Station (1.5 hrs)
-- 2:10 pm - caught the underground (subway) to Liverpool Station, 8 stops; we quickly realized that we needed to prepare WELL in advance to get off the train for our stop as Ryan timed the amount of time between when the door opened and closed and we had a mere 10 seconds to load up our back packs, grab our bags and jump onto the platform!
-- 2:40 pm - caught the Stansted Express train to Stansted Airport (45 min)
-- 3:25 pm - hopped into a taxi for our Best Western Stansted Manor Hotel (10 min)
www.stanstedmanor-hotel.co.uk (booked through www.cheaprooms.com and saved $40 USD) which partially paid for our dinner tonight! For example, check this out: this is how far our US dollar goes in comparison to the British pound - dinner at a Best Western hotel:
Fish and Chips (again, Ryan is trying out the different Fish and Chip recipes across the UK and this unfortunately was not the best): Fish and Chips, Tortellini, Cesar salad with enough anchovies to make you hurl and dessert (which we SPLIT), 2 cokes and 2 cups of coffee = 41 British pounds = $81 USD. Let us remind you, this meal was ordered off of a freaking BAR MENU, sitting in the bar because the restaurant was not open yet! LOL!!!

Our very nice waiter told us how cheap Poland was - here we come to lick our wallet wounds!

Wake up call comes early tomorrow, 3:00am, for our 6:00am flight to Krakow, Poland, but only after another $20, 10 min taxi ride to the airport!

Today's walk: 3.86 miles
Total miles walked: 23.01 miles (5 days)

Love,
Ryan and Laurie

Say Goodbye to Merry Old England
Well, good riddance England and the darn exchange. However, from your pics of the inn and the country side today, I would have cried a bit leaving it. I remember one time in London taking the Express Tube from the airport to Paddington. If I remember correctly it cost $80 round trip. I just about croaked!

Enjoy the plane ride!
