If one gets off a sailboat at 10am and needs to be 6 hours away by the next morning one should find out what travel options are before the dingie from the boat to the harbour leaves. So no trains, no buses and almost no options. Eventually I remember that I have a nice credit card that will give me a car. So after a fruitless half an hour at an internet cafe and 8 phone calls I finally found a vehicle we could pick up in Auckland and drop in Wellington! Then we drove to Matamata to visit Jay and his wife Cheryl and children Maria and William. Jay is Moira's cousin and we had a great time visiting and talking about travelling and Canada and NZ. Jay barbequed us a fantastic meal and Cheryl helped us get some laundry done so it was a fantastic stop on multiple levels!
