Time has gone so fast.  We have been back in New Jersey for over a week and have been busy seeing people, going places and eating like there is no tomorrow.  There will be some serious dieting when we get back to Manila.  I read recently that since 1980 Americans have gained an average of 20 pounds each and we have gone from a 15% obesity rate to 33%.  It's sad but I can see how that happened. The servings in restaurants are huge and the supermarket aisles are overloaded with options.  Aisles and aisles devoted to chips, cookies and candies.  Of course, we are missing the aisles devoted to canned meats and smelly fish that we usually see in Manila.

Since we've been back in NJ we have accomplished most of the list of things we wanted to.  We ate BBQ at the Smokehouse in Hackettstown and Dinosaur BBQ in NYC. We ate burgers at the Lafayette Tavern and at the County Seat.  We even ate sliders at White Castle at 1am after a night at Bernie's to see Billy Hector play.  But we weren't drinking much and Russ wasn't begging me to drive him there so we're not sure it really counted. He did beg to go after a night at Corbett's house but I didn't take him.  Just like old times.

It does seem like time to leave.  Things at the office are crazy.  The economic downturn has caused some restructuring and cost cutting measures to be implemented. People are nervous and concerned about what  will happen to their jobs. It does not make for a good office atmosphere.  I keep getting sucked into the crisis of the moment, whatever it may be, and have been side-tracked from the list of things I wanted to accomplish while I'm here.  Working on the other side of the world I am able to deal with issues at a more calm pace and I can set the boundaries for what my workload entails better than I can in NJ where I am easily accessible to people.

It also seems like time to go since we don't have personal space of our own here.  Someone else is living in our house now.  We did go to see the house since we are the landlords and we wanted to make sure they were treating it ok.  It was strange.  Driving up to the house seemed so normal.  But when we got there somebody else's car and travel trailer were in the yard.  Their furniture and belongings were in the house.  A couple of  rooms were painted.  It just didn't look like our place anymore.  So our home isn't  quite in NJ anymore and it still doesn't feel like home is in Manila either.  Where is home?  Maybe, like a lot of expats, it's wherever we find ourselves at the moment.
