We continued our Florida trip with the long drive to Port Charlotte to visit Jane's family (and another stop at Sonny's along the way).    The weather was good for cruising the highway with the top down while listening to satellite radio.  Sirius/XM is great for road trips.  No hunting for local radio stations as you pass in and out of range.  And their songlist includes music you haven't heard in years.  On the flip side some of those songs would be better left to rot in a vault somewhere.  Ben by the Jackson 5 comes to mind.

More food - we made a homemade cheesecake with Mom.  The thick, creamy, New York style cheesecake with a sour cream topping.  We haven't made one in years.  We also went to the annual Shark Tooth festival in Venice where we had grouper sandwiches and checked out the shark teeth being sold.  Huge ones - some costing up to $800.  They find them off the coast here and you can actually find small ones very easily just walking on the beach.  Mom has a big jar of them.  So many people in the area have a collection that it's surprising there are any left to find on the beach. We tell her she should throw them back in the water so everyone will still have something to look for.

Even more food - on a trip to the beach we stopped for lunch and had some Lousianna oysters.  Raw oysters on the Gulf Coast are properly served with saltine crackers, horseradish, cocktail sauce and Tabasco.  Unfortunately this is not the case in most other places.  Sad but true.  There should be a law against serving them any other way.
