The final count is in.  Today the newspaper proudly stated that only 346 people injured and 6 died as the results of the New Year's Eve celebrations. (only?)  They said this is the lowest in the past several years.  They attributed the decrease in the overall fireworks displays to the campaign against using fireworks, the rain, and the bad economy.  I can't imagine what the celebrations in past years must have looked or sounded like because we were pretty impressed with this one. 

We had watched the celebrations from, what we thought, was the safety of our balcony.  But one of the casualties of a stray bullet was a guy who was doing the same thing.  I guess when they told us to stay inside they really meant to stay inside.
