[Bob here] Up reasonably early as we had a fair old drive on our hands today, we were heading for Pemba and Wimbi Beach which is a 424km drive which took us 6.5 hours. We all had a good stint in the drivers seat for what was a fairly uneventful drive to our camping destination of Russel's Place, which turned out to be another great recommendation from Gareth, good on ya Hago! We actually made it to Wimbi beach with still some sunlight in the sky, so we parked up at Russel’s Place, grabbed some beers and our snorkelling gear and walked the 100 meters to the beach. A quick 2 mins of snorkelling revealed that there was hee haw to look at so we played a couple of games of donkey (a ball throwing and catching game in which the loser has to run around making donkey noises) with my air bomb footy thing. The news isn’t good folks, Scotland received a sound beating from Australia, it was 2 on 1 though. We finished our beers sitting on the rocks watching the sunset until we were rudely interrupted by what can only be described as an orgy of dog sex. This led to a couple of unprintable stories of Webbie’s time down the mines in Indonesia.
Ritch was over the moon to discover that Russel’s place provided free wireless internet access but was soon to discover that it wasn’t much cop. We spent a very pleasant evening having dinner and drinks with Russel, a good old Aussie who’d had the place for ten years and his 2 friends Pieter, a Saffa and Gherete, a well travelled Dutch fella with a story to tell on any subject you may have. What he don’t know, he’ll make up! A very funny lad who was very helpful with some African travel advice. In true Aussie fashion Chicken schnitzel and Aussie Burgers were on the menu which boosted morale. Our host Russel was leaving the next morning to fly to Durban to go to the Aussie Germany game. I’m sure Ritch was very close to adjusting the Whacky adventure to incorporate a couple of days in Durban partying with his fellow countrymen.
We all slept up top in the roof tent for only the 2nd time since I arrived, the first time being a few days previous when we bushed camped and drank straight rum until the early hours and immediately passed out. This time was a very different kettle of kippers . I had a rubbish nights sleep as it was just too hot, sweaty, crowded and full of Aussie beer farts. I resolved to arrange alternative accommodation for the following night.
