Flag of Norway  , Western Norway,
Thursday, May 24, 2012

This morning we headed off for a quick visit of Lillehammer, host of the 1994 Olympics. It's quaint, and a little hard to imagine it held the Olympics, but the nearby villages including where we stayed last night were all part of the hosting area.

Today was the second day in a row where we did a lot of driving. Norway is a fairly big country but with lots of gorgeous scenery to boot. In fact, the drive we did was one of the most coveted by drivers in the Contiki company, and let me tell you, it was well worth it.

After one tunnel, we emerged as if having arrived on another planet as snow capped mountains appeared on both sides of us. All of a sudden, it didn't seem to matter whether you were sitting on the left side or the right side of the bus as the road winds back and forth steeply into the valley.

Our cruise down the Geiranger Fjord though was cancelled unfortunately as there was an accident on the road we would have needed to take.  The country roads here are not the widest, and overall I'm quite reminded of my trip in Scotland - only without the mountains and snow.
