It was still raining when I woke up in Ashland, WI, yesterday, the forecasts for the area on the Weather Channel were pretty gloomy, so I decided to drive all the way to Grand Rapids, Minnesota, in the hope of hitting some good weather.  Crossing the Mississippi at Duluth was a cold affair: plenty of fog and a low of 52 degrees F.
But gradually the weather improved, I took the hood down and enjoyed driving through Minnesota's timber territory.  However, the sky was mostly overcast, so I decided to leave the tent in the trunk for another night and to check into a motel.
This morning the sun is still reluctant to come out.  The sky reminds me of the 'June gloom' that Rita and I experienced in Los Angeles, when we spent a delightful two weeks with Claudia and Tom at their house.  The sky would be overcast in the morning, until the sun broke through.
In a few minutes I will head north along Route 38 (called The Edge of the Wilderness Byway).  But before leaving Grand Rapids I will check out the Old Central School and, perhaps, also the Forest History Center, both sound interesting.  And, by the way, there is also a Judy Garland Museum.  She was born in Grand Rapids and lived here with her parents and siblings until the age of 4:  'Born in 1922, she was Frances Ethel Gumm when she crashed her older sisters' performance at their parents' Grand Rapids theater, making it through Jingle Bells before being carried off the stage.'

hi Jens, sounds like the rain might be following your journey for a bit. Nice and hot and sunny here in NM. Thanks for continuing the blog. Stay well and dry.
