After another not-so-fun non-VIP 7 hour bus trip from Thakhek (which included being stuck on the stationery bus in 38 degree heat for 45mins whilst the driver poured gallons of water into the over-heating engine) we arrived in Pakse at about 4pm and checked into the Sabaidy 2 Guesthouse. We were going to stay at a place next door instead that has baby parrots in the garden (see pics) but once we'd started unpacking realised they only have squat loos and as my guts had started to feel a bit fragile again on the bus I insisted on a wussy western WC.

Fortunately gut situation improved, and we had a bit of time to explore Pakse before dark. The itself isn't much to write home about but we're using it as a base from which to explore the surrounding areas, and in particular the Bolaven Plateau.

We're still travelling with Dave and Julie so had a nice dinner with them (and celebrated their 2 year anniversary) and arranged to hire motorbikes in the morning and hit the open road around Champasak together.
