Ica (another overnight bus journey) was a tiny little town which is close to enormous sand dunes. We stayed for two nights here and in the day visited the nearby oasis of Huacachina (4 soles in a taxi - around 60p).

Huacachina is in the middle of the desert and surrounded by hugh sand dunes in all angles. According the the myth a princess stripped offf her clothes to bathe, but when she looked into the mirror she saw that a male hunter was watching her. She dropped the mirror, which turned into the lagoon/oasis. Oh well, thought Iīd give you the legend! There are some hotels and houses surrounding the oasis and thatīs about it, however, itīs the best place for sand buggying adrenaline junkies.. like yours truely! We went on a 2 hour dune buggy ride for two hours which included sand boarding lessons. Great fun, and wish Iīd gone back for more attempts at boarding. Falling over and over is just part of the fun! Fantastic time and thoroughly recommend this.

Off to Nasca next...

didn't built any sandcastle?
Awsome photos!
I am sure Rhona would have appreciated some sort of sky-lift to get to the top of that dune. Hard work!
