Alright, here I go again - a new notebook and a new adventure. Goodbye Healdsburg, goodbye California, my love. It's a shame that to my eye your splendor has grown so dim, but in faint echoes I hear the horizon calling and I can't resist. I'm on a bus now, heading south through the Sonoma valley. I'm staying at Ray's tonight in the city. Tomorrow night I board a plane to Bangkok, a twenty-three hour flight including a six hour layover in Taiwan.
The ticket in my wallet is one-way, next to that is $123 dollars cash, I have a little over $1,000 in the bank and, with a little luck, I wont be coming back any time soon. I'm gong to Ban Phe, a small fishing village south of Bangkok, to take a certification course in teaching English (TEFL). The plan is to find a job teaching somewhere in rural Thailand to supplement travels and to immerse myself in Thai culture. Don't ask me why.
No luggage really. All i have is my trusty Kelty, packed with a few changes of clothes, toiletries, a thesaurus, this notebook, some pens and art stuff (including a few stencils), and some minimalist camping gear in case I decide to do some treks in the jungle (or run out of money). I'll be keeping this journal to share my thoughts and ideas, mostly for myself, maybe as a guide for others depending on how comprehensive it gets or how far i even go with it. I've never been to Asia before so I should have alot to say and since I'm traveling alone there's a chance something tangible might actually come of it.
