Jamie--Well, we didn't get as far as we hoped because I'm having a problem with my battery not re-charging.  Sorry, Barb, that we had to cancel our overnight with you.  So here we are in a small town in Iowa trying to figure out how best to adapt our plans to allow for EbyRose's repair.  More than likely she will need a new "stator";  most bike shops do not have this part in stock, so we will have to have the fix in Cody (since we will be their a couple of days).  We have a long haul ahead of us today;  More than likely I will need a jump start every time I shut the bike off, so I'm going to try to keep her running the whole day.  Wish me luck, friends!!!  It is kind of frustrating having this problem, but I am very grateful for the great help that Ty and Joan are giving me through this bike problem.  We'll let you all know how it turned out later.  For now, I need to start packing myself and the bike.

Later in the evening--my bike broke down this afternoon and couldn't be recharged.  We got it to a KFC parking lot and spent a long lunch waiting for the engine to cool down.  Then we tried jump starting it.  Still no go.  Finally we decided to buy a new battery.  By the time all was finished, we chose to go to a nearby motel to sleep and plan to leave very early in the morning.  Amen.

Joan -- We didn't get far.  We spent most of the afternoon in the KFC parking lot trying to get Jamie's bike to run.  She really is having some trouble with EbyRose who doesn't want to keep running.  It was getting pretty late and we decided to stay where we were for the night.   There was a Super 8 right behind the KFC so Ty went over and booked the room.  We replaced the battery on Jamie's bike and headed in for the night.  We'll get an early start in the morning.

REally glad it wasn't anything more serious, although if stator failure happens on a Vulcan, it entails tilting the entire engine to replace it...very poor design here. Hope yours is a much easier access, Jamie.
As long as you have your buds with you, you should have no trouble from it, as long as you aren't driving at night.. Keep on keeping on, and have a safe trip...maybe you can see Barb on the way home if you go that way...too bad to have to miss seeing friends along the way. Margie is a gem, however, and looks like you, Jamie...sounds like a great gal!
Thanks for the blog...we really enjoy reading what you have to say, so far.
Best to you all!

So if all went well, you've been on the road for at least a couple hours now and have finally shaken the dirt of Iowa off your feet! Hope things are getting better. Remember you can't just eat junk food all the way across the country! Fruits and veggies!!

I think that comment about having to buy the new battery was added since I last saw this post. I sure hope that the new battery helps you get further along! I also hope you all got some meaningful sleep!! I am visualizing all of you on the road today, having a great ride and much better luck!!

Are you giving up on the blog? Lots has happened since this.

Dying to hear what's going on! You're probably too tired to write after the day's ordeal, so catch us up when you can!

For what its worth, I talked to Doug today, he said that the battery charging issue could be the stator, or it could be the rectifier.
