Graham and Carol took us for a nice drive through the country today. A bit of nostalgia as well as we drove through the villages where Rick and Graham used to live. We visited Finchenfield last year but it was good to see it again. It is a particulary nice village with a lovely village green. We arrived at a village named Clare, where we stopped and had a walk around . Some lovely old cottages and a very impressive church, although Carol and I found the inside  pretty disappointing. It is always nice to see the cottages with the thached roofs and the crooked structures they have now become. Some of them have distinct waves in their roofs which makes it look even better. Most cottages have been restored beautifully and remain the same as when they were first build. The owners must have to duck their heads a lot as the doorways are pretty low. We also came across a delightful butcher shop which had been established in 1789 and is still going strong today. Bought a couple of pork pies for Rick , he loves them with mustard. Had one for tea tonight and he said they tasted good.
Next stop was the village of Cavendish where we were going to stop for lunch. Another pretty place with lots of old cottages and of course the odd country pub or two. We decided on the local tea room and restaurant for our lunch. A pretty good venue, being a Friday we ordered cod and freshly cut chips and were ready for a good feed. Not long after we placed our order, the waitress came back to us and explained that they had run out of fish. We ordered something else but were baffled by the fact that they had run out of fish, on a Friday , at a quarter past one in the afternoon. Obviously they had not catered for enough people. Still our lunch was very nice and all was forgiven.
Time to start the journey home by then, Graham and Carol had to go to the theatre in London that evening so had to be home early enough to be able to get to London on time. Yes we were home alone but managed to behave ourselves and watch the football and golf on TV.
A lovely day today, nice and easy and very pleasant.
