Left our campsite at Inverness this morning and headed towards John O' Groats the most northern part of the mainland. Last year we made it to the most southern part of England , traveling with Carol and Graham , so this trip was a must. From Lands End to John O' Groats, it may have taken more than 12 months , but we made it, unfortunately Carol and Graham could not be with us this time. It was a very scenic drive there and thankfully the rain stayed away for us. It was only a 3 hour drive to the top for us. Once you get there , there is realy nothing much to see, just the coastline and a sign to let you know that you are there.  We took the compulsary photos one takes when one visits. We spoke to a lady who has lived in the area for 20 years, she is shocked at the changes that are now taking place . They are now starting to cater more for overnight accommodation and refurbishing the old hotel and building new chalets. There are some lovely island which you can visit on day tours, these tours take up most of the day and require an overnight stop at John O'Groats ,so it makes sense to build a few chalets. Had a lovely long chat to the lady and her son, so much information they provided for us. Good to stand there and find out what the area's history is. Seems the spot has become a lot more popular since Mc Gregor and Boorman stared their motorbike trip through Africa from there  and made the documentary of it all.
We had some lunch at the cafe and even though we were going to stay in a park close to here we decided to head back to Inverness , had lots of time to drive back so why not.  Actually the trip back was more scenic and spectacular, the sun was out which made it all look even better. We got back to Inverness and booked into in the same caravan park. We mostly stay in Caravan Club parks now, have not come across a bad one yet and the facilities are always very good. We were made to feel very welcome again and nearly got our old site back, had to park 2 sites further up.  All settled again and planning where to go tomorrow
A .nice, long day and very enjoyable
