After our visit to Maccas to update the travelpod we stopped at the Culloden Battlefield. The battle lines have been redrawn at the Culloden battlefield. The site has been restored as closely as possible to that seen on that fateful day in April 1746 when the Jacobite army was crushed by government forces. It is also called the Civil War and is known for the defeat of Bonnie Prince Charles , who was banished from Scotland and was in exile in Rome till his death. The casualties of this battle were over 1200 dead in just one hour. The battlefield visitor's centre is very informative and explains the story of the battle very well. I am not very well informed with English history and often just look at things but at this venue you can ask questions to your hearts contend until it  all makes sense to you. This battle changed the course of history,  and was fought on the basis of religion, power struggles and some-one's whim of wanting to rule . Pretty bloody useless but still applies today. Good stuff to look at though.
Our next stop was the Cawdor Castle, a romantic and fairytale castle and home of the Thanes of Cawdor since 1370. The dramatic medieval tower, turrets, battlements and drawbridge belie a most enchanting interior of fine art works tapestries and furniture. It is still lived in today for 6 months every year from October to April and gives the interior a homely atmosphere as well. Some old and some more modern furnishing make the rooms very appealing and look naturaland very much lived in. The kitchen has been renovated in a very modern style and takes you by surprise when you enter it . Somehow it is not offensive and looks as though it belongs there. Luckily the old kitchen has been kept intact for people to see as well
Time to go home after our visit to the castle. A lovely afternoon and very interesting. A couple of happy tourists on their way home. Great day all around.
