Arrived at this campsite yesterday. It was raining yesterday so we found ourselves a decent site and relaxed for the rest of the day. Too wet to do anything other. The rain stopped late last night and although it is still cloudy at least it is dry. Hopefully it will stay that way for the next couple of days. Paris was calling us today and by 8am we were at the bus stop outside the caravan park to catch the 8.06 am bus. Well it came along ok and we hailed it but the bloody driver did not stop, he didn't even slow down. walked to the park office to find out if we were in the right spot, oh yes she replied but sometimes the bus just does not stop here unless you realy jump up and down and then only maybe. Great start . We were advised to walk to the village about 5min away because the bus has to stop there. So we did and yes another bus came along and let us on. Happy again. Hopped off the bus at the railway station, bought a 2 day transport pass and we were on our way. A very interesting train journey, so many big apartment blocks , all looking the same, just build next to each other with big car parking spaces at the bottom. This was still 30km out of Paris.
Got to one of the 5 major railway stations , got off the train and follwed the crowd to the exit or sortie as it is called in France. Voila all of a sudden we were on the streets of Paris without having a clue which way we had to go. Our planned destinations were a visit to the Louvre and a visit inside the museum, perhaps a look at the famous Mona LIsa. Found the Palais Royal Musee du Louvre, a big palace with two enormous court yards. Very impressive to look at, however they have erected this glass pyramid in the centre and for the life of me I cannot understand why. It looks completely out of place there. Anyway being eager to go inside we did not ask why. Well it is the entrance to the museum and what we saw then was a queue sooooooooooooo long it was hard to see where it ended. Lost the eagerness to go inside straight away. The louvre will have to wait till next year when we come back here. Time for a pit stop after that. Found a lovely little cafe with a french waiter with a great personality. We asked to have a look at his cakes much to his amusement as most people have toast at that time of day. I had a triple chocolate piece of cake and Rick had a apricot and custard cake. Very nice and it prepared us for the next onslaught with the crowds.Next stop the Notre Dame, what a great structure and what a lovely walk from the Louvre to there. The same queue was there but we did not want to go in anyway. It is just stunning to look at. Lots of armed soldiers there but then again they are around a lot in Paris.
Tomorrow we will try out our way on the metro and visit the Eiffel Tower (only had a glimpse today) and of course the Arc de Triomphe and of course the Avenue des Champs Elysees. that should do us for the day. Paris is nice and I am sure it will grow on us even more tomorrow but personally I Liked London the best of all the big cities we have visited. As far as squares, plazas or piazzas are concerned there is nothing better than Trafalgar Square, now that has got a personality all of its own. Looking forward to seeing the tower tomorrow and just walking through the city itself.
A very very interesting day but we are now buggered. Looking forward to tomorrow

Glad your first day in Paris went well - a great blog with photos of architecturally beautiful buildings. 500 points to both of you for being able to eat those big wonderful slices of cake!

Hello Rick & Will,
Love the photos ...............and all the old buildings..it's like stepping back into a fairy tale. I often wonder what it would have been like if we hadn't come to Australia.....but at the same time I wouldn't want to change anything anyway.
We hope you are both keeping well and look forward to catching up again in November.
Sorry that we haven't managed to follow your trip as much as we would have liked! Busy with all sorts of things. Greg did his golden triangle tour and found a couple of bits of gold...was a little disappointed that they didn't take them to any exclusive areas..........just areas that were available to the general public.
We just spent a couple of days at the Jupiters Casino as they had good rates for their accommodation (early anniversary celebration).
I've just spent the past couple of days doing a Mental Health First Aid course (I can now tell if you are nuts) ha ha.

Coriana & Kat will be heading back to WA soon. Marie Chris & kids have just been away on a cruise ....I am waiting to hear how that went....it would have been very exciting for them as it was their first cruise and their first real holiday away with the kids. Chloe would have loved it and so would Jesse.

The news for Gail hasn't been good (Pauls wife) the cancer is back and she has been told there is nothing more they can do for her. They are however trying some new treatments which we hope will help her.

Love
Greg & Helga
