Woke this morning to a nice sunny day, great because we were going on our river trip.Took the bus to Boppard again, walked to the cruise terminal which is a very pleasant walk. As we arrived there we looked up at the sky and saw the big black clouds rolling in. Just a few minutes later we were caught up in the biggest thunderstorm with very heavy rain.We found shelter under one of the hotel's awning which were opposite the terminal and there we stood , feeling the temperature go down. Luckily the rain eased off before we had to board but the temperature had dropped by about 10 degrees. So by now you are thinking that we had to put our jackets on, wrong, we left them behind in the van , as well as our umbrellas. Never leave your jackets behind when you go out especially here in Europe or in Melbourne, same thing. Never ever again will we make that mistake again in Europe we promise.
The cruise itself was great. The ship was big and beautiful both inside and out. She was 100 metres long and 16metres wide and 3 stories high. Very comfy inside with full catering service as well. Lots of commentary in english as well. The scenery is unique of course with lots of castles perched high on the mountains. Left the ship in Bacharach which is another very old village steeped with history. There are still a lot of Roman buildings there as well with the usual forts around them. All very nice.
Had a nice lunch there , walked around a bit more ( it was warmer by then) and made our way back to the terminal and wait for another cruise ship to take us back to Boppard. Arrived home again at 5.30pm. Am now sitting back at the park watching the ships go by.
What a way to go.
