Honestly I realy tried to post a blog yesterday but just could not get access to the internet. Tried again this morning ,managed to write the blog but could not publish it as it dropped out again . So here is yesterday's news.
Berlin here we come, caught the shuttle bus from the park to the tram station in Pirscheide.Waited and waited for the tram but alas nothing eventuated on that score. Finally someone informed us that the track was being repaired and no tram till 12md BUT if we walked on the path through the forrest it would take us to the main road and we could catch a bus to Potsdam railway station. So we started walking, funny part about it all was that everyone else followed us as though we knew where we were going. their trust in us paid off because we ended up at the bus stop. Next question we were asked ," what time does the bus come" felt like telling them " how in blazers would I know but had a look and found out when. At last we were on the bus which did take us to the station where we caught the train to Berlin. From there we caught the underground to the Brandenburg Tor stop and hey presto when we came up the stairs there it was along with thousands of people doing the same.Rick and I looked at each other and asked why but we soon realised that it was the 50th anniversary of the building of the wall. Felt chuffed to be there then on that day. It was a special moment to be there. We walked through the gates, as you do, walked on a bit and found the memorial they build for the 7 million Jews.It consists of polished concrete blocks all different sizes. Awesome to look at and very moving.
Felt we deserved a cuppa after that and a bit of a sit down, found a nice place to do exactly that. One thought came to us and that was , how the heck do we find our way home but decided not to worry about that and enjoy the day. Travelled Berlin on an hop on hop off bus and saw so much that way. It takes 2 hours to do the circuit and that is without any stops. Almost information overload at the end.
Berlin is a large city in area with approx 2.3 million population and of course a lot of the old East Berlin is still noticeable especially in the housing area. so many people were cramped in such small areas. Because 80 percent of Berlin was bombed there is not a lot of historic building left but they have done a good job of rebuilding with the same architecture as it was. Of course the new stuff is ultra modern and the Berliners are very proud of the new look.
We managed our journey back ok ( lots of info boxes at the stations ) and all in all it was a informative day. Need to go back one day for more.

Today we left Potsdam and drove Kleinrohrsdorf, which is 17km from Dresdon. It is a lovely park and we will probably stay here for 3 nights or so as there is lots to see around here and it would be nice to not rush for a couple of days. We received a good reception here, the brass band was playing. Would like to think that it was just for us however it was in aide of some historic celebration.
Have to read all the brochures now so we can plan our days.
