Next stop Padstow, none of us had any idea what was there so it would be a surprise to all of us. A bit of a disappointment really. Our main thing to do there would be to have fish and chips in one of Rick Stein's ( famous chef ) outlets. I have never seen such a lot of people queing up to get a feed of fish and chips. The place was dirty and smelled like old boiled oil, why anyone would want to eat there we could not understand. We soon changed our mind and found a nice pastie shop instead. Still showering now and then but once again we managed to find shelter here and there.Padstow itself is nothing really and the highlight of the visit was looking at the brass band and some people doing a funny dance. We didn't know what it was all about but was different to see.
On our way home we found a lovely old church called St James the Great, had a little look inside, it has a historic stained glass window which dates back to the 15th century and has been restored in 2005. Well worth it.
Also drove to Truro to have a look. Bigger town with a big cathedral. Have never been to so many churches in my whole life , but they all have something special to see.
A lovely dinner at a restaurant in St Mawes, coffee at the B&B.
Nostalgia day tomorrow to visit an area where Rick has been. What a lovely day again today.
Another day and another cold and wet summer's day in Cornwall but we soldiered on regardless so after a hearty breakfast the four of us once again hopped in the car and proceded to do more sightseeing. Of to the north coast today to have a look at Port Isaac. This village was used for the location of the tv series Doc Martin and was named Port Wenn. We reckonised a few landmarks they used and of course we had to take the compulsary photo of the buildings they used. The village itself is rather special and looked rugged. It was a dull and windy day but these conditions somehow gave it some extra charm.A fair amount of tourists were there but not too bad overall. The village of course has become a popular place to visit since the TV series began. Always great to see these places as they are so different to anything we have back in Australia. Spend an hour or so walking around again, once we had enough we made it back to the car. Only had to dodge a couple of showers and did not get too wet if at all.
