Arrived in Legazpi at a very civilised 8am after an 11 hour trip {650 peso} from the Cubao bus terminal in Manial. Depressingly however it was cloudy and raining upon arrival and continued to be so most of the day. To add insult to injury, Legazpi itself is a grungy, unappealing city. After checking out and rejecting three hotels i ended up at the Dreams Inn & Cafe (the cafe is permanently closed) where i got to have the 4-bed dorm all to myself for only 200 pesos. What a result. I had headed this way as it is near Mt Mayon supposedly one of the most ‘perfect’ and beautiful volcanoes on Earth. Due to the weather however i didn’t even get to see it, let alone go up it! Thought i might also go and explore around Sorsogon whilst here – an up and coming outdoor enthusiasts spot supposedly but was put off by the shit weather. Ended up wandering round the town and walking up Kapuntukan Hill (Sleeping Lion Hill) where on a clear day you get amazing views of Mt Mayon, the port and Legazpi itself. In one of the shopping malls in town i came across a big display outlining Chinese horoscopes for 2014 – i’m a Sheep apparently. Having read the career horoscope part maybe there’s little point in going back to work until 2015 and i should carry on travelling until then! Would also appear that i need to find myself a Horse or Rabbit!!
